First (kinda) Week of Second Semester!
It always feels a bit overwhelming to hop right back into the college lifestyle again after a long-- yet short-- winter break. With Wilson being closed right now, it felt a little odd not to rely on my usual routine at home of waking up at 7:30 am to go to the gym. Last week, I got so comfortable waking up late that I overslept my alarm today, an embarrassing way to start the week off. Nevertheless, I appreciate the environment college brings. I reconvened with many friends that I hadn't seen since the end of the fall semester, I had my usual Sazon bowl for lunch, chicken and the classic cilantro aioli sauce they have, and I felt the soothing sensation of sinking pool balls again during the late night. When I came back to campus, I got this weird feeling as if almost I had never left campus. Everything just fell right back into place, and nothing seemed to change. Although this semester, people don't seem as active as much because of how cold it is at night. Last semester during orientation week, there were swarms of people gathering in front of Gilbert Addams; this semester, the front quad was dead empty. It's really unfortunate that our freshman year has to be like this due to COVID, no basketball games this year, no lively campus events, no in-person classes... :(. At least we're on campus, so that's something, and I am thankful I got an in-person class this semester, even if it's at the gross early time of 8:30 am. I think this semester; I'm hoping to get back in the habit of waking up early for 8:30 classes and stay on top of my work so I won't ever feel overwhelmed with homework. We'll see at the end of the semester if I reach my goals🤣
Your voice comes through really strong here, Louis! That is, just from reading, I get a strong sense of who you are and your personality.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if you can connect this more specifically to some of the things we've been discussing in class. Your descriptions of life on campus are clear and engaging, and I do think they are connected to our class content...For instance, you mention that after coming back to campus, "everything just fell right back into place and nothing seemed to change."
Is there something about routines that brings you comfort and security? What about the college lifestyle makes you happy? How are you able to find joy and happiness in a new situation, amid all the Covid changes? I think those ideas are all dancing around under the surface of your post, but bringing them out and addressing them more directly will strengthen your posts!
Thank you for the feedback! I'll definitely keep those next step questions in mind in the next post I write.
DeleteOverall, great description of your first-ish impression of the start of the semester. The fact that you recount your own experiences to enhance the subject matter gives it a very personal touch. I have nothing more to add besides the idea Dr Andres mentioned about zeroing down on the more dominant ideas in your piece.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment!
DeleteI feel that this is a good description of your start-of-semester, and it gives me a good sense of what your days are like, as well as the things you enjoy. I think a possible way to build on this is to find a pattern in all the things that you enjoy and therefore deduce what makes you happy.
